Słowo empatia, odmienione przez wszystkie przypadki, na stałe zagościło w naszym codziennym słowniku. Mówimy o niej w kontekście komunikacji, dostrzegania różnorodności i zarządzania nią. Dotyczy to również osób zajmujących się projektowaniem usług (a szerzej – projektowaniem doświadczeń). Empatia zajmuje ostatnio należne jej miejsce i współtworzy określenie projektowanie empatyczne.
Co to oznacza w praktyce? Projektowanie empatyczne to takie skupienie się na osobach, dla których projektujemy, w którym analizujemy szerokie otoczenie tej osoby. Wchodzimy w jej buty, przyglądamy się codziennym sytuacjom jej oczami, staramy się usłyszeć to, co ona słyszy w swoim otoczeniu i zrozumieć jakie to wszystko ma dla niej znaczenie oraz jak wpływa na jej decyzje i zachowania.
W projektowaniu empatycznym wychodzimy poza persony znane z design thinking, które są tylko wstępem do pracy nad mapą empatii i analizowaniem wielowymiarowych celów osób (metoda Jobs to be done). Opieramy się na badaniach etnograficznych, które pozwalają nam odtworzyć nie tylko otoczenie osób, ale też ich sposób myślenia, odbierania i interpretowania tego otoczenia. Te wszystkie ćwiczenia dają nam zasadniczą korzyść – większą efektywność w projektowaniu. Im więcej rozumiemy, im częściej możemy powiedzieć: „Ah, więc to o to chodzi”, tym łatwiej nam proponować właściwe rozwiązania – takie, które będą zrozumiałe i trafione, czyli przyniosą oczekiwaną przez te osoby korzyść.
Do warsztatu osób projektujących usługi i doświadczenia dołączyły więc umiejętności i postawy związane z empatią – przede wszystkim ciekawość, otwartość, umiejętność identyfikowania swoich założeń, wychodzenia poza stereotypy i nieuświadomione uprzedzenia. Jednym słowem – otwartość na różnorodność.
