Katarzyna is an expert in gender equality and gender based violence as well as antidiscrimination and antimobbing law.
For over 12 years, Katarzyna has been working with EU, national and local government institutions in the field of systemic changes for the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and counteracting gender based violence. She was the first Plenipotentiary to the Mayor for women’s affairs in the Polish local government, creating and coordinating the action plan for women’s rights in Warsaw. She provided expert support in the implementation of the Social Diversity Policy of the City of Warsaw, including the development of a procedure for responding to reported cases of unequal treatment. She conducted a structural and legal analysis of the possibility of updating “the Model for Equal Treatment” for the City of Gdańsk. She participated in preparation of the Polish version of the Diversity Charter.
Katarzyna is a lawyer. She participated in many trainings and seminars organized by EU institutions on antidiscrimination law and gender based violence. She gained her professional experience in the Antidiscrimination Law Unit at the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights and as an assistant to the Deputy Commissioner for Equal Treatment, where she was responsible, among others, for cases related to discrimination on the ground of gender and conducting social campaigns. She also developed the international cooperation of the Commissioner for Human Rights as an independent equality body, also as the coordinator of the Gender Equality working group at the European network of equality bodies EQUINET. As an adviser to the MEP in the field of human rights, Katarzyna participated in the legislative work of the European Parliament.
For several years, she was an academic teacher at the SWPS University and the Kozminski University, sharing her knowledge of anti-discrimination law.
Cofounder of the Human Rights Cities Institute, which supports local governments and private institutions in the implementation of the human rights based approach into their policies.
Author or co-author of publications concerning mainly the implementation of the principle of equal treatment based on gender.
A graduate of UMCS in Lublin (Law), Jagiellonian University (PhD studies at the Faculty of Law and Administration) and Collegium Civitas in Warsaw (Postgraduate Studies – International Relations and Diplomacy). A scholarship holder of the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid as part of the “Spanish Law, Politics and Economics” program.
